Art Car Caravan to Douglas- Day 2 of 6

Day 2

Woke up in Venture this morning and had breakfast in a cute little 50's dinner across the street from the Child Abuse and Neglect Thrift Store (I kid you not.... that was the name). Then on we drove to Grandma Prisbey's Bottle Village. This was an amazing place. Full of history and woderful art form a very interesting  woman. You can learn more about her and her amazing outlook on life here:

The bottle village was used much as therapy for this woman who built most of the village as a cheap way to build extra housing for her family. We spent quite a time there and I bought a 1' x 1' area plot of land there as a donation. They are having a hard time raising money from the local government to keep the place afloat- though it has been declared a national historical monument. And when you see the photos, you will know why.

Then, after we spent our time at Grandma Pisbey's we headed, unexpectedly to Charles Hunt;s house. A well know Art Car Artist for making "The Grape" - a wonderful artcar that can only be explained through photos. We got a chance to see his other cement art and his new house that he is restoring, complete with cement made to look like wood siding on the out side of the house!

Finally we went to head off to The Watts Towers. We had not planed on going to the grapes, so by the time we got there the museum was closed. That will make it the 3rd time I've been there and I have never made it in time for the museum. Oh well. There's always next time. I love the Watts towers and think they are really beautiful. Someday soon I hope that Grandma Prisbey's Bottle Vilallage can get the funding and protection that Watts towers has gotten.

We got 3 new Art Cars joining us today, Amanda with her Jungle Truck, Scott with his Alien Bug and a group from minnesota who are art caring a rental car called "Global Warming". Cool stuff, and we'll see more tomorrow!---- CLICK ON THE PHOTOS TO SEE MORE!!!
